Walking

The pleasure of walking is a rather complex phenomenon. It looks quite differnt for the "normal" adult, for old people, for children, for the handicapped, and for persons walking a dog.
Here you find an example of a walkability checklist including criteria important for children:

Walking is as natural an activity as breathing. We should be able to do it anywhere, and go everywhere.

Children enjoy walking. It's got rhythm and feeling. If we design our environment to be walkable for children, it will be a palce to go for all.

Pedestrians have to give way to the new electric vehicle "Segway"

Until now it was clear what was meant by walking. However, the American Segway company has managed to define their vehicle as a non-vehcile, a so called "Human Transporter" (as if the transporter was human), and the the legal experts made "Electric pesonal assistive mobility device" out of it. This way the company wants to get the privilege to use the pedestrian surfaces even in the rest of the world, where there are still humans who walk.
Here you find a detailed description of the problem with various links including one where you may see the Segway riders.
